In this week’s round up of the personal care and cosmetics packaging industry we’ve found three stories about new packaging innovations where the companies developed two-for-one systems for consumers, these are from; The Body Shop, L’oreal, Revlon and Clinique:
In the personal care and cosmetics industry, there are two strategies to improve customer experience–either through providing better formulations or user-friendly packages. What’s interesting about this week’s round up, is that the packaging from each of the companies enables consumers to successfully deploy formulation, or even control, and tailor products to their own needs and personal tastes.
The Body Shop has introduced a new package for its body butter collection. The new pot is divided into two compartments, and contains in one compartment, thick body butter for dry skin, and thin body butter for normal skin. This new product announcement is an example of “Mapping innovation with the customer experience,” which we talked about in the post “Driving Market Leadership with Continuous Innovation,” recently.
L’oreal has used the 2-in-1 concept on mascara tubes and eye treatment packages. In their latest mascara collection, the two-ended PP tube features one top with a nourishing base and the other one to lengthen lashes in different colors. Different brushes are used for the two products. L’oreal also creates a squeezable two-ended tube, “The 24HR Eye Duo treatment”. With the day treatment in one top and the night treatment in the other top, customers can experience L’oreal’s first 24 hour eye treatment with one purchase.
Revlon has designed a “smart bottle” that enables customers to personalize the foundation to meet their skin tone. The foundation comes in a two-chamber bottle with a pump and a rotating dial. Different amounts of foundation will be dispensed from each chamber according to the number customers dial. As one chamber holds a lighter shade and the other holds a darker shade, users can create the perfect match for their skin color by selecting their “foundation number,” and dialing the pump.
Lastly, Clinique uses a double-sided tube on its Black Honey Lip Duo. One side is a normal lipstick and the other one features a lip gloss in the same color with a brush.
